Shelfie Privacy Policy

Shelfie ("the app") is built by Aavyadev. Shelfie helps you find your belongings by letting you photograph drawers, shelves and boxes and search them later. Privacy is the product's core design: your data stays on your phone.

What Shelfie stores — on your device only

• Photos you capture or import, thumbnails, and any names, notes or tags you add.
• Search data derived from your photos (image embeddings, text read from labels via on-device OCR, barcode values) — computed entirely on your phone by bundled machine-learning models.
• App settings.

All of the above is encrypted at rest with AES-256 using a key generated on your device and protected by your phone's hardware keystore. It is never uploaded, synced, or shared with us or anyone else. We run no servers that receive user content, and the app contains no analytics or advertising SDKs.

What Shelfie does NOT do

• No account or sign-up. We do not know who you are.
• No collection of photos, locations, contacts, or usage analytics.
• No data sharing with third parties.
• No ads.

Permissions the app asks for

• Camera — to photograph your shelves and drawers. Images are processed and stored only on your device.
• Microphone — for voice search. Speech recognition runs on-device; audio is not sent to Shelfie and the app requests on-device-only recognition from Android.
• Notifications — a progress notification while the app finishes analysing your photos in the background.

When the app uses the internet

Shelfie's core features work fully offline. The network is used only for:

• Google Play Billing, if you purchase the premium unlock or subscription (handled by Google Play; we do not receive payment details).
• Optional one-time downloads of machine-learning model files from our content servers (a download of app components, not an upload of your data).

Backups

The only way data leaves the app is when you export it: the in-app backup writes a passphrase-encrypted file to a location you choose. You hold the passphrase; we cannot read or recover backups.

Data deletion

Delete individual items in the app at any time, or use Settings → Delete everything, which destroys the encryption key (crypto-shredding) and makes all stored data permanently unreadable. Uninstalling the app removes all app data from your device.

Children

Shelfie is a general-audience utility and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date.
